Billiard Balls

In a typical game of eight ball there are 11 billiard balls that are involved in play. Ten of them are colored and numbered while one of them is a white cue ball. They can be made from many different materials such as plastics, polyester and resins but all have similar characteristics, they are all hard and chip and fracture resistant. The hardness makes them ricochet off each other and transfer their energy to the other ball.

Billiard balls come in many different sizes depending on the type of billiards played. Russian pool has the largest balls and the smallest pockets making it especially challenging. Snooker has a much smaller ball, the smallest other than ones made for children being about 2/3 the size of an American cue ball.

Billiard balls can come in many different colors and designs. Carom only uses 3 balls, two cues and one colored ball while eight and nine ball have a wide range of colors, basically covering a basic color hue wheel. There are themed balls that have football team logos on them, or poker themed pool sets with aces, jacks, kings and queens.
