Billiard Cues
Billiard cues today are all very similar. They are similar in length, averaging right around one and half yards and all have a leather tip, although the condition of the tip can vary greatly and they are often replaced. The tips provide good friction to the cue ball allowing for a solid strike. The leather is sanded to accept chalk which increases the amount of friction even more allowing spin to be applied to the ball.
Billiard cues can come in many designs and color schemes. They almost always are made from wood, but some have aluminum or carbon fiber wrapped around them or inserted as a core to make them stylish and more importantly stiffer. A flexible cue is undesirable as it may not strike the ball with enough force and accuracy. They are often completed with a rubber bumper on the base of the stick so it is not damage from setting it down.
Billiard cues feel differently to players depending on how they are constructed. The feel of a cue is something that professional pool players are avidly searching for. A good feel changes from player to player, with some preferring stiff cues that are powerful and heavy while some prefer a lighter cue that allows the player to feel the ball better after each shot.
