Pool Table

A pool table is a more specific term for a billiard table with pockets. They are most commonly used for games of eight and nine ball which are considered the American versions of pool. They can come in many sizes, all rectangular, but only the eight and nine foot versions are suitable for tournament play.

A pool table, like other billiard tables, has a slate top and a felt surface that is typically green to mimic grass but now can have almost any color and even designs. They are elevated off the ground for easy play and many have a series of tubes and channels that collect that balls from the pockets and deposit them in a easy to access spot.

The sides of the pool table have rubber bumpers and angle points for accurate rebounding shots. A thick slate top will keep the surface flat for a much longer time than a thin piece of slate, but it will make it much more expensive and considerably heavier. A warped slate can be replaced and scratched felt can also be replaced with some difficulty.
